Alfonso Ribeiro Wiki Biography
Alfonso Lincoln Ribeiro Sr., commonly known as Alfonso Ribeiro, is a famous American dancer, comedian, game show host, as well as an actor. To the public, Alfonso Ribeiro is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Carlton Banks in Andy and Susan Borowitz’s sitcom called “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. In addition to Ribeiro, Will Smith, James Avery, Janet Hubert-Whitten and Karyn Parsons played the main characters on the show. When the series ended in 1996, Ribeiro went on to star in a variety of other films and television shows, amongst which some of the most notable were “In the House”, in which he appeared alongside LL Cool J and Debbie Allen, Randal Kleiser’s “Love Wrecked”, and “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!”. More recently, in 2014 he made an appearance in the 19th season of the dance competition show called “Dancing with the Stars”, where he was partnered with Whiney Carson. Ribeiro started his acting career when he was eight years old, and by the time he was 12, he was already known for his appearance in “The Tap Dance Kid” musical on Broadway. The latter performance not only brought him a lot of public exposure, but had also earned him a nomination for Outer Critics Circle Award. Ribeiro rose to prominence in 1984, when he landed the role of Alfonso Spears in Marty Cohan’s sitcom entitled “Silver Spoons”. In the series, Ribeiro starred together with Ricky Schroder, Joel Higgins, Erin Gray and Franklyn Seales. Around the same time, he was featured in a popular commercial for “Pepsi”, where he danced alongside Michael Jackson.
In addition to acting, Ribeiro published a book entitled “Alfonso’s Breakin’ & Poppin’ Book”, which focuses on dancing instructions, and in 1986 released his “Timebomb” record through “Prism Records” label. Ribeiro gained even more public exposure in 1990, when he joined the cast of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, in which he played the character of Carlton Banks. After his success with the latter show, Alfonso Ribeiro went on to become a host of various game shows, including “Spell-Mageddon” and “Catch 21”. Aside from that, Ribeiro took part in such shows as “Celebrity Duets”, “Your Big Break”, and even directed numerous episodes of “All of Us” starring Duane Martin and LisaRaye McCoy-Miscik, as well as “Are We There Yet?”.
In regards to his personal life, Alfonso Ribeiro married Robin Stapler in 2002, yet the couple divorced in 2006. In 2012, he became engaged to Angela Unkrich, whom he married later that same year. Ribeiro has two children, a daughter from his marriage to Stapler, and a son with Unkrich.
