Rapper Missy Elliotts mother makes historic Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction appearance

For the very first time, Missy Elliott is allowing her Christian mother, Patricia, to witness her live performance, marking a historic moment after persuading her for years.

On Friday, October 3, the 52-year-old hip-hop star will create history by becoming the first-ever female rapper inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In a recent interview with Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, the Grammy-winning musician revealed her decision to break her tradition and have her Christian mother witness the milestone moment.

“My mother has never seen me perform before,” she explained during the interview. “She’s seen me on TV but she has never been to a show. I had some little words I didn’t ever want her to hear. She’s coming for the first time.”

In May, it was announced that Missy, whose real name is Melissa Arnette Elliott, would be the first female rapper to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Reflecting on this honor, she expressed to Robin Roberts that the achievement left her speechless.

‘It just hasn’t clicked. When you are in the hip hop world, it seems so far out of reach,’ the Work It hitmaker explained.

‘And it being the 50th year of hip hop anniversary. Just the whole thing, it adds layers. No matter what people say, the hip hop world is something special and unique.’
